When first starting out to learn the guitar the only thing most of us can think about is when will we be able to play a song. It's the #1 reason most of us pick up a guitar, so that one day you'll be able to play one of your favourite tunes for your friends. I know because I was once that person. Wishing I could play the tunes I heard on the radio.

I had a couple of friends and family members that played the guitar. One of which was my father. I love listening to him play, but I also knew that he had been learning to play for the past 25-30 years. It was rather discouraging to think that I might have to wait that long to get good.

I tried taking private guitar lessons, how ever every week I'd go for my 30 minute lesson and it just didn't feel like I was learning anything new each week. Sure I was learning some basic chords, the notes on the neck and names of the strings, how ever this wasn't getting me any closer to being able to play songs. After about 8 weeks of private lessons I quite, and sat my guitar down for the next few years.

Fast forward a head to more recent future and I once again picked up my guitar. This time I decided to teach myself. I figured there is a ton of free content out there so I must be able to figure this stuff out on my own. I don't need a teacher.

This worked for a few days as I was very motivated, but what I soon found was that the organization of free videos and information about learning the guitar was scattered around the web. It wasn't easy to find quality content and since i wasn't getting it all from one source rarely was I learning things in a logical order. I figured there must be a better way.

It was at this point I found the Learn and Master guitar program. I had been doing business online and got into the habit of first looking on the web for a solution to most of my problems. Learning guitar seemed no different. This guitar lessons dvd program was created by a professional guitar player and teacher in Nashville TN. His name was Steve Krenz and his resume was quite impressive (I did a quick search in Google for his credentials).

The program was a 10 DVD (looking now the course is now 20 DVD's in the expanded edition) program developed for beginners and intermediate players. I didn't consider myself a beginner, although I knew I was a long way from being advanced.

The self study program also came with 5 jam along cd's to use for practicing with a full band as well as a 100+ page lesson book that supplemented the video instruction on the dvd's. For the price of about $150 bucks this seemed like a pretty good course.

I have to say that getting the Learn & Master guitar lessons program was not a mistake. The quality of the content and indepth instruction offered in each lesson over delivered on what I was expecting. There is easily enough content in this self study guitar lesson dvd to last a beginner a year or more. Or course if you want to take it slower you can do that as well, that's the great thing about a self study course.

The one draw back of this course I felt was your accountable to yourself. I know this might seem odd that I'm saying it's a negative to be accountable to yourself but hear me out first. When you're learning to play the guitar and taking private lessons you know if you don't practice your teach will know. Often times this can be enough motivation to practise the material no matter how boring it is.

When you're teaching yourself how to play the guitar the only person your accountable to is yourself. This can sometimes mean that a quality course like Learn & Master guitar gets purchased but  never gets used. This is one thing no course can do for you. If you want to learn to play the guitar you have to have the discipline to use what ever lesson material you have.
